What is it with Twilight???

I just finished reading The Scarlet Letter and the entire time I was amazed by the characterization.  It was so refreshing to read a book that had more substance and depth than I what I usually read (middle-grade fantasy).  I savored that book.  Every paragraph was beautiful.  But now it is over.  Now I can give in to the ridiculous urges I have been having lately.  For some reason I feel the need to reread Twilight.  “Oh, look.  It is cloudy out.  I should read Twilight.”  “Man, that guy looks greasy, I should read Twilight.”  "That girl has brown hair, I should read Twilight."  Ugh.  I don’t even like the story that much.  What is wrong with me?

  1. It means you should just read Twilight again- spending a couple of hours on it wouldn't kill you!

And I was thinking of picking up The Scarlet Letter- after your review, I will definitely do so.

  2. Rayna, Twilight won't kill me but a nurse I work with probably will. She can't believe I have read the entire series three or four times. She is NOT a fan, even though she loves vampire books.

  3. Sorry I'm being silly - you do mean Nathaniel Hawthorne's The Scarlet Letter?! Cos I love that book - oh wow!! If it's not, ooops!! :-)

Go on give in to the call of Twilight - you know you want to!! :-)

    Take care

  4. Thanks for commenting on my post. Hope you've recovered from "traditional" medicine, i.e. vaccinations! Last year my daughter and I decided against flu shots, since I know so many people who have them and still get some form of flu anyway and because they say that the "stuff" they put in the shot can stay in your body for years (this isn't good stuff BTW). So we just "stay in" if we don't feel confident about going out to church (a hotbed of germs sometimes). Neither of us has to work outside the home (yay!), and I stock up on food and essentials in the fall. We didn't get any flu last year, and the colds we now have are simple colds.

Now to Hawthorne: He's great! I read The Scarlet Letter again several decades ago and wrote an essay on it for a class I was taking. That "older" literature is awesome; but I am also one who likes Twilight, although not obsessively (I only read two and a half books in the series); I really did like the movie version of the second book, too. I would say if you want to read Twilight, read it!

Delighted you dropped in on my blog. I have no idea about why you keep losing me.

  7. Twilight makes me think of Phantom of the Opera sometimes. Christine’s personality really parallels Bella’s. She is young and thrown into this new environment and has two male admirers. Totally like Twilight! With the added music from Mr. Andrew Lloyd, it seems more of an all encompasing experience from Mr. Hawthorne.... Hey, let's go see Phantom! :)
